VALHALLA N.Y. (WLNS) – In this update to the deadly commuter train crash that happened Tuesday in New York, an initial investigation shows the train was traveling well within the speed limit when it crashed into an SUV on the tracks.
State Senator Charles Schumer says the train was going 58 miles an hour when the speed limit is between 60 and 70. The crash killed the driver of the SUV and five people on the train.
Investigators are still piecing together exactly what happened and they still have several questions that need answers.
Tuesday’s crash was the deadliest in the history of the Metro North Railroad. It is the second largest commuter rail system in the country.
