Michigan Lawmakers Looking At Death Penalty

(WLNS) – Some Michigan senators want to impose the death penalty on people convicted of first-degree murder in the slaying of a police or corrections officer.

The proposed constitutional amendment introduced this week faces an uphill climb because it would need two-thirds support in the legislature before going on the November 2016 statewide ballot.

In 2004 the house fell short of the votes needed to pass a constitutional amendment that would have allowed capital punishment.
