Security Breach Hits Health Care Company Anthem Inc.

SAN FRANCISCO, (WLNS) – A massive security breach at Anthem Inc., a health care company could have affected as many as 80 million customers.

Hackers who gained access to Anthem’s computer system got information such as names, birthdays, medical IDs, Social Security numbers, street addresses, e-mail addresses and employment information, which includes income data.

Swedish says Anthem “was the target of a very sophisticated external cyber attack.” He also says Anthem has contacted the FBI. Swedish also ads that his own information was accessed during the security breach.

Anthem’s database has about 80 million people in it. Spokeswoman for Anthem, Cindy Wakefield says Anthem is currently investigating to determine how many people were impacted. “At this point we believe it was tens of millions,” said Wakefield.
