Lansing City Council President Appointed As Register Of Deeds

INGHAM COUNTY, MI (WLNS) – Lansing City Council President Derrick Quinney has been appointed as Ingham County’s new Register of Deeds.

The decision was made Wednesday during a meeting which included Chief Probate Judge Richard Garcia, Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III and Clerk Barb Byrum.

Quinney will give up his council seat for the Register of Deeds job. This likely means that Council Vice President Tina Houghton will lead the group.

Quinney will now be responsible for managing the records and paperwork that deals with properties throughout the county.

Those up for the seat included Quinney (Lansing City Council President), Carol Wood (Lansing City Councilmember) and Carol Koenig (Ingham County Commissioner).

The position was vacant because the former Register of Deeds, Curtis Hertel Jr. became a Michigan state senator on January 1.
