LANSING, MI (WLNS) – An 18-year-old man has been sentenced to two and a half – 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting an MSU student.
Darcel Johnson Jr. was 17-years-old and in high school when the sexual assault happened in February 2014.
Officials say Johnson went into a house in East Lansing where a 20-year-old woman was sleeping. That’s when police say Johnson sexually assaulted the woman. MSU students were living in the house at the time, including the victim.
Johnson claims he was not sober when the assault happened. He pleaded no contest back in October to a third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge.
According to Ingham County Assistant Prosecutor Steve Kwasnik, the victim supported the plea. Johnson’s attorney said he pleaded guilty due to his lack of remembering the incident and because of potential civil liability.
Johnson told the court the night the incident happened was a late night. He recalls thinking he was in another place and somewhere he was supposed to be asleep.
