Detroit-Windsor Tunnel Shut Over Package With Brass Knuckles

DETROIT (WLNS) – Authorities say the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel closed for several hours because of a package containing brass knuckles that two people were trying to bring through from Canada.

The tunnel’s operators said they were reopening it Tuesday night after a three-hour shutdown.

Windsor police Staff Sgt. Jason Crowley says officers detained two people Tuesday evening after they tried to enter the international crossing in a vehicle containing the package.

He says authorities found that the package contained brass knuckles, which are illegal in Canada.

The tunnel runs under the Detroit River between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit. Authorities diverted traffic to the Ambassador Bridge, which also links the two cities.

Crowley says authorities are detaining the occupants of the car while the investigation continues.
