(WLNS) – 6 News Capitol Correspondent Tim Skubick has learned that the Michigan State Police are planning to move their headquarters out of downtown Lansing.
It is expected that the headquarters will relocate to the State Secondary Complex on Canal Road. The State Police moved into their current building on South Grand Avenue in 2009. That building was constructed at a cost of $39 million. There had been criticism since construction began in 2007 that the building was not able to accomodate the needs of the State Police.
There are currently about 120 employees who work in the building. Those jobs are expected to remain in the area but the move will create more empty office space in downtown Lansing.
We’ll have more on today’s announcement online and on 6 News at Noon.
