GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) – Emergency officials say a bus carrying about 40 students from a North Carolina middle school has overturned.
Area media reports said the bus carrying students from a school in Gastonia, near the line with South Carolina, overturned Wednesday afternoon. Initial reports say none of the injuries appears to be serious.
News television aerial footage showed the yellow bus on its side, blocking a two-lane road with its two rooftop hatches and its rear door open. Firefighters and other emergency officials clustered nearby.
The Charlotte Observer cited first responders as saying several people had been taken to hospitals. Authorities had no immediate information on any injuries.
A spokesman for North Carolina’s Gaston County Schools couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
