MERIDIAN TWP., MI (WLNS) – A woman awaiting trial in the death of her first child is now facing charges in the disappearance of her second.
Melissa Mitin, 25 is facing a murder charge from December 2013 when officials say she gave birth to a baby girl inside a bathroom and disposed of her in a trash can. Police say the umbilical cord and placenta were still attached.
Mitin hid her first pregnancy and in December she gave birth to another child, a baby boy. The boy is missing and Mitin told officials she “could not recall” where the baby is.
Circuit Judge Jim Jamo granted a request by Mitin’s attorney to send her for psychiatric examination to find out whether she’s competent to stand trial. In the meantime, Judge Jamo sent Mitin to the Ingham County Jail without bond.
