Spartans Arrive Home After Cotton Bowl Win

EAST LANSING, MI (WLNS) – The Cotton Bowl champions have landed and with a smile from Coach Mark Dantonio right off the plane, there was no hiding that the Spartans are happy with another bowl game win.

“So happy for our football team and guys just stepping up and making plays at the end of the game, pretty tremendous,” said Coach Mark Dantonio, MSU football.

6 News met up with Spartan fans at the airport Friday who say the close win brought them to tears.

“I literally had tears coming down my eyes, I did, I was so happy for them,” said Jeannia Knights, Spartan fan.

“They taught us to never give up and they were down by like 20 points,” said Austin and Gerrit Garcia, Spartan fans.

With another bowl game win under their belt, MSU says it isn’t just good for the teams record, it’s good for Michigan State University’s future.

After last year’s Rose Bowl win, the MSU Alumni Association campaign hit an ultimate high.

“This past year we had a record number of donations in the run up to the campaign, over $230 million,” said Scott Westerman, executive direction, MSU Alumni Association.

With cheers for the team right off the runway, even the smallest fans agreed.

“Go green, go white,” said Austin and Gerrit Garcia, Spartan fans.

It’s a good day to be a Spartan.
