LANSING, MI (WLNS) – The man in charge of Michigan’s community health agency has been tapped to also lead the state Department of Human Services on an interim basis.
Nick Lyon was named the agency’s director by Gov. Rick Snyder on Monday. He replaces Maura Corrigan, an ex-state Supreme Court justice who’s retiring after four years.
The Human Services Department covers child welfare and public assistance programs.
Snyder says Corrigan was a “fierce advocate” for residents, especially children. He credits her for launching a program to bring social service caseworkers into schools and improving the child welfare system.
Michigan recently asked a judge to end oversight of the system.
Lyon began leading the Community Health Department in September. No timetable has been set for finding a permanent director of the Human Services agency.
