Christmas Gift: Police Deliver Baby Born On Philadelphia Train

(CBS) – When a SEPTA train pulled into this station on 15th and Market Streets on Christmas evening, police officers Officer Dorrell James and Sergeant Daniel Caban didn’t know it yet, but they were in line for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Officer James explains what they saw. “Saw passengers kinda looking around, we know something is going on.”

Sergeant Daniel Caban adds, “A second passerby told me “I believe some is in labor.””

That person was right, inside a train car, in front of concerned passengers and captured on septa surveillance video, one baby couldn’t wait any longer. Mom was delivering in her seat and on the train.

That’s when things got very interesting. “We went on the scene. We saw the baby ready to come out. We went right into action. Her husband was there and he helped out. He gave us a shirt off his back. We wrapped the baby around.”

Humbly, the officers say they were in the right place at the right time. But this no doubt was a miracle under Market Street.

Officer James thinks the timing was perfect. “When you talk about Christmas, its a time for giving… just joyous times.”
