MASON, MI (WLNS) – John Kelsey, 34 heard friends recount the night of December 6.
“Did you see the defendant drinking at the Alley Bar?”
“What was he drinking?”
Friends say the night of crash, Kelsey and some friends had been hanging out at two area bars.
“How did you get to the Alley?”
“He drove you?”
“His blazer, I believe.”
“It was an SUV?”
“What color was it?”
But after about three hours, the friends say someone else picked them up.
“It was like an SUV, like a Suburban type of vehicle.”
“What about it stood out to you?”
“I thought it was really odd because it looked like a salt spray all over the back of it.”
And moments after leaving the bar herself, that same woman said she noticed that same white SUV behind her.
“It was striking that it was going so fast.”
Close to 80 miles an hour in a 55 zone. She couldn’t make out the driver was the defendant John Kelsey II or recall seeing him that night.
Though, in the early stages of the preliminary hearing, Kelsey’s attorney remains confident.
“Were with him at a bar to my knowledge, 20-30 minutes away, I still don’t think that places him at the scene.”
The case will now move on to circuit court.
A date has not yet been set for Kelsey’s trial.
