LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Skinny Minnie has made some big health improvements since she was found back in July at Hawk Island Park.
An elderly couple was taking a stroll through Hawk Island Park one morning, when they found the dog laying under a cabana, lifeless. The couple described the dog as “half starved.”
“The dog hadn’t eaten in for months, or ate very little over a couple of months at least,” said Tim Roberts, Hawk Island Park attendant. As Roberts approached the dog, he said she was sitting in the corner of a fenced in area, skin and bones, tail between her legs and her head down, looking almost ashamed.
A call into the Ingham County Animal Control facility got the malnourished dog into safety and because of her skeletal appearance, officers named her “Skinny Minnie.” When officials took her weight, they couldn’t believe she only weighed 41 pounds.
That was Skinny Minnie on July 25, 2013. Now Skinny Minnie is 85 pounds and she has been adopted by her foster family. She’s still a little on the shy side, but she’s receiving lots of love and attention.
