Firefighters Await Signature On Cancer Fund Bill

(WLNS) – A bill awaiting a signature from Governor Rick Snyder would protect Michigan fire fighters diagnosed with 10 different work related cancers by creating a fund to cover the cost of cancer treatments.

The bill passed in the house last Thursday after passing in the senate earlier this year.

Currently the workers disability compensation act does not cover fire fighters that develop work related cancers if they cannot definitively prove their illness came from on the job exposure to carcinogens.
