EAST LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Toxicology results are in for a fatal accident that happened on US-127 in September.
It happened around 1:50 a.m. Sept. 18 on US-127 near the I-496 interchange.
Nicole Ann Merschel was driving a small sedan and traveling the wrong-way on US-127 northbound. Merschel, from Mason crashed head-on into a northbound cargo van.
The results say the 18-year-old had a blood alcohol level of .169. She also had traces of THC in her blood, which is the active component in marijuana.
The East Lansing Police Department says the alcohol and THC contributed to the accident.
The driver of the van and Merschel’s passenger were taken to Sparrow Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. Merschel died on scene.
Merschel’s passenger, 22-year-old Jessi Christyne Nunn of Weslaco, Texas died at Sparrow Hospital on Sunday, Sept. 21. The 36-year-old driver of the van has since then been released from the hospital.
