JACKSON COUNTY, MI (WLNS) – A teenager was formally charged in court Monday morning for an open murder after police say he shot and killed his brother in Blackman Township earlier this month.
Riley Spitler, 16 is being charged as an adult. He was taken out of the courtroom in handcuffs Monday morning.
Police say he shot his 21-year-old brother Patrick when he walked into his room with a gun in his hand. He asked his broher, “do you feel lucky?” before the gun went off.
Initially officers said they believed the teen did not think the gun was loaded when he pointed it at him.
Patrick Spitler died on scene.
Officials say at the time of the shooting the parents were not at home.
Police say no one in the house owned the gun.
