(WLNS) – Investigators are putting together what led to the accident that left a father and his daughter in critical condition following a car crash on I-496 Wednesday night.
Glen Chapman, 46 came to help his daughter who ran out of gas and was stalled on the side of I-496, near Cedar Street.
Lansing police tell 6 News the accident happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
After the crash both Chapman and his daughter Jocelyn were taken to the hospital. Glen Chapman died later due to injuries from the crash. Jocelyn remains in critical condition. Yvonne Caamal Canul, Lansing School District superintendent says Jocelyn, a J.W. Sexton High School senior has been in surgery.
Superintendent Canul also said, “This is so tragic, my heart bleeds for Delsa.” Delsa is Glen Champan’s wife and also the Magnet Schools Coordinator.
Both Superintendent Canul and the Lansing Police are asking that people pray for the Chapman family.
A team of crash investigations is still looking into what happened. The 19-year-old woman driving the car that hit Chapman and his daughter was not arrested. Police say alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
