MSU Students Protest Commencement Speaker

EAST LANSING, MI (WLNS) – George Will, an award winning journalist for the Washington Post is scheduled to speak at commencement for Michigan State University.

However, many students aren’t happy with the decision to invite George Will to speak.

They’re angry because they say he made insensitive comments about victims of sexual assaults in an editorial he wrote back in June.

MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon defended MSU’s choice on her blog on Tuesday.

President Simon wrote, in part, “the decision to invite Mr. Will was made early this spring, well before the publication of his June 6 column.”

Filmmaker Michael Moore is also scheduled to speak.

6 News will be at the protest. We’ll have more tonight on 6 News at 5 and 6.

We welcome thoughts and comments from our viewers. We ask that everyone keep their remarks civil and respectful. Postings that contain profanity, racist, or potentially libelous remarks will be deleted. We will delete any commercial postings, as well.
