(WLNS) – It started online on the popular “Craigslist” site. It ended with an undercover bust on a Jackson street.
Jackson County Sheriff Steve Rand tells 6 News that investigators from his department have been looking into several larcenies from victims in Summit Township and the City of Jackson.
According to Rand the larcenies have been connected to posts on Craigslist advertising Play Station and Xbox units for sale. The suspects would arrange to meet and purchase the game systems at which time the subject would steal the electronics without paying. No injuries were reported during the thefts.
On Wednesday at approximately 6pm, Detectives from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office set up an undercover buy with the suspect on West Michigan Avenue near Brown Street. The suspect, a 20 year old Jackson man was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Jackson County Jail. The suspect told officers details relating to at least 4 separate larcenies of game systems.
“I am reminding residents that there are pitfalls relating to the use of Craigslist and other resale sites,” said Sheriff Rand. “Often if it seems too good to be true it likely is just that.”
The reports will be forward to Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka for review.
