LANSING TOWNSHIP, MI (WLNS) – There are still many questions surrounding an officer involved shooting in Lansing Township on Monday.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Monday in the 2600 block of W. Kalamazoo Street, near Hathaway Street. Lansing Township Police Chief Kay Hoffman says the shooting happened right after police pulled over a car for a traffic stop.

Officials say one of the passengers in the vehicle showed a gun to the officers. A Lansing Township officer fired his weapon at the passenger. The passenger was later pronounced dead from his injuries. He has been identified as Randall C. Minier, 27 from Lansing.

Two other people were inside the car during the traffic stop. They were taken into questioning but later released.

The two officers involved in the shooting are both on paid administrative leave.

Michigan State Police are continuing to investigate. After Michigan State Police finish their investigation, details will be turned over to the Ingham County Prosecutors office for review.

The last shooting involving an officer in Lansing Township was more than 20 years ago.
