WLNS – The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating a three-car fatal crash that happened Friday night a little after 10 p.m. on US 127 just south of Baseline Road in Union Township.
A Chevy Silverado driven by 41 year-old Ryan Michael Tree from Shepherd, MI was driving north in the southbound lanes of US 127 when he collided head on with a Volkswagen Passat driven by 45 year-old Scoot-Michael Kuhnert from Bath, MI.
Both Ryan Michael Tree and Scott Michael Kuhnert died at the scene. One of the passengers in Kuhnert’s vehicle, 57 year-old Ellen Monahan Andary from Bath, MI was air-lifted to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing by LifeNet for numerous injuries.
Joshua Mark Watters and Thomas William Arends, both 15 years-old from Mt. Pleasant, MI sustained minor injuries in the and were transported to McLaren Central Michigan by Mobile Medical Response.
US 127 was shut down from the Rosebush Road exit, to the M-20 exit in Mt. Pleasant for approximately 2 ½ hours as a result of the crash.
All individuals were wearing seatbelts except for Ryan Tree. According to authorities Ryan Tree had been drinking prior to the crash.
The accident remains under investigation by the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department.
St. Thomas Aquinas School sent out a statement Saturday morning to families who attend the school to notify them of the tragic accident.
There will be a rosary said for the families this afternoon at 3:45 p.m. at St. Thomas Church prior to 4:30 mass.
