Gannon Building At Lansing Community College Gets A Facelift

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – What used to be a swimming pool is now a hangout for students at Lansing Community College.

The Gannon Building at LCC has received a major facelift and even though it was completed two months ago, tonight for the first time it was used to host a holiday party.

The newly renovated building is now a place for students to meet up, hangout, grab something to eat, and do their homework, something they can do for the first time.

“When people see this space for the first time they say, wow,” President of Lansing Community College, Dr. Brent Knight said.

The project took about two years, and as of two months ago, from top to bottom it was demolished and then took on a new look.

“And expanded and extended and put in that whole glass wall along the Grand Avenue,” Dr. Knight said.

Something, as president of the college, he is proud of.

“This is a great space that any college or university in America would love to have,” Knight said.

And students there do love having it, especially Ashley Simrau, she says she comes to the Gannon Building at least once a day.

“Since they have Subway and Einstein open, there’s been like lines and lines of people wanting to get food because this is the first time we’ve had food on campus in a year and a half,” Simrau said.

But there’s more to choose from than just Subway and Einstein, according to President. Dr. Knight.

“And then Pizza Hut is there and then we’ll have fresh and healthy food with another vendor as well,” he said.

“So it’s very exciting and very nice to have lots of people around getting to know each other, just by standing in line or seeing someone at a table who just needs help,” Simrau said.

Tonight the new space was used to host the college’s annual holiday party, giving LCC leadership a chance to recognize the donors that make scholarships possible for students.
