Body Cameras Tested In Local Jail

EATON COUNTY, MI (WLNS) – Following recent events in Ferguson, concerned citizens have called on lawmakers to mandate police officers to wear body cameras to ensure their transparency.

Many local law enforcement agencies are testing the cameras in the field including the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department here in mid-Michigan.

But deputies in Ingham County are using them in a different setting, the jail.

They are testing three body cams and say it is a huge improvement from a handheld camera they were previously using.

They say the body cams have been very useful, especially in “he said she said” situations. Ingham County is hoping to receive grants to purchase more body cameras in the jail and for road patrol deputies in the field.
