Dallas To Host 19-day ArtPrize Competition In 2016

DALLAS (AP) – Members of the public will have a say in honoring aspiring artists when ArtPrize Dallas begins in 2016.

Organizers on Thursday announced plans for the 19-day international art competition in public areas mainly in downtown Dallas.

A newly founded nonprofit group has reached a three-year charter agreement with ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where a similar event began in 2009.

Up to $500,000 in cash prizes and grants will be awarded to artists in ArtPrize Dallas, set for April 2016. The competition is open to any artist and decided by public vote and an expert jury.

Mayor Mike Rawlings says ArtPrize Dallas is meant to engage and nurture future artists, plus promote a meaningful discussion of art and its role in society.
