(WLNS) – A teen is being blackmailed through Facebook because of a video that was obtained through his webcam, according to WJBK in Detroit.
The computer has a virus called a “rat.” The virus has the ability to turn on the computer's web cam without the user's permission and without anyone knowing. Rat stands for “remote access tool.”
The victim, Hector Hernandez, was scared enough that he gave in to the demands for money. There were threats that if he didn't wire money, the posts would be shared with friends and on his school's website.
Instead of telling his parents, he stole their jewelry and sold it to a pawn shop. After he gained $1,500, he sent the money, but the nightmare doesn't end there.
